Embroidered Chef Coats With Your Logo and Every Chef’s Name

Chef coats cut, sewn and embroidered in one factory, made for kitchen laundering. Thread, backing, buttons and seams are set for the way your kitchens wash them, from an industrial laundry with chlorine bleach to washing at home.

01Chef names

Embroidered Chef Coat Names Built for Industrial Laundering and Bleach

The name is the part of the coat that has to stay readable longest. Logo set-up, wash-test standards and the staff-list workflow are as on our custom work shirts; here is what changes on a chef coat.

  1. 01

    Thread

Polyester. On white coats that go into chlorine bleach, the thread colour is checked for colour fastness to hypochlorite to ISO 105-N01, grade 4 or better before it is approved. A brand colour that falls short is swapped for the nearest one that passes, at the thread stage.

  2. 02

    Backing

Every name and logo sits on a permanent cut-away backing that stays in the coat through every wash and every hot tumble dry, so letters do not pull or distort as the twill moves. Tear-away backing is never used on our chef coats.

  3. 03

    Density and lock stitches

Stitch spacing of 0.40–0.45 mm on chef twill keeps letters solid without a stiff, puckered patch under the name. A lock stitch at every trim, start and stop means one cut thread cannot pull the next letter apart.

  4. 04

    Lettering

The name runs 6–12 mm high and the title line, such as Executive Chef or Pastry Chef, 5 mm or more. Block fonts sit mid-range; script fonts go to the top of the range so thin strokes survive laundering.

  5. 05

    Embroidered on the single-layer front

Logo, name and title go on the front panel before the facing is sewn on. The needle passes through one layer of twill and the backing only: flat stitches, a smooth inside, and no frame clamped over a finished front.

  6. 06

    Wash test

Industrially laundered coats: ISO 15797 for 50 cycles on sample pieces, then again on pre-production pieces from bulk fabric before bulk leaves, inside the bulk window (lead times). Home-washed programs: ISO 6330 for 50 cycles. Pass means no broken stitches, no puckering and colour fastness to washing of ISO 105-C06 grade 4 or better.

  7. 07

If a name does not pass

The set-up is adjusted first, such as backing weight, density or underlay, and retested. If it still fails, the approach changes, for example a taller lettering height or another thread colour, and you see the proposal before anything is decided.

Who does it

The digitizer writes backing, density and lock stitches into the logo set-up record kept with your program. Line QC checks the first piece off every machine against the approved sample before the run continues.

You receive

  • Logo and name confirmation, signed spelling proof
  • Thread bleach-fastness result for white-coat programs
  • Before-and-after wash photos and the test record

04Positions

Logo and Name Positions on a Double-Breasted, Reversible Front

Two button rows and an overlap leave less chest than a shirt, so every position is fixed on your approved sample and every size follows it.

Up to 3.5 in / 9 cm wide on the outer panel, clear of the buttons and the overlap edge: smaller than the 4 in / 10 cm on our work shirts.

  • Name and title

Below the logo, with the title on a second line. Some kitchens prefer the right chest above the button row; we stitch it wherever your sample shows it.

  • Sleeve

Up to 3 in / 7.5 cm. On coats with a left-sleeve thermometer pocket, the logo goes on the right sleeve or above the pocket.

  • Collar

A small flag or initials up to 1 in / 25 mm high, stitched on the collar piece before the collar is attached.

Positions are set per size, XS to the largest size, in men’s and women’s cuts, and line QC checks them at first piece and during the run. Every chef’s name reads in the same place on the pass.

Chefs who join next year get the same name, font and thread colour as the brigade they join.

07Closures

Knot Buttons, Studs or Snaps, Matched to How Your Laundry Collects

The body of the coat goes through the same hot washes as the name on the chest.

Sewn on with a lock stitch, so one worn thread does not unravel the rest, and every loop or buttonhole is bartacked. They stay on in the wash: our pick for industrial laundering, where nobody handles the coats first.

Plastic studs with ring clips, taken out before washing and put back after. For chefs who wash their own coats, or laundries that remove studs. Each coat’s studs are bagged and packed with it.

On snap-front coats. Nothing rusts or marks white fabric in the wash.

08Heat and hot washes

Mesh Panels, Cuffs and Fabric That Hold Size Through Hot Washes

A coat that still closes, still fits and still looks right after months of kitchen laundering.

  • Mesh panels

Gussets, side panels and back yokes in polyester mesh, sewn into the body seams with finished edges that do not fray or curl. Polyester mesh holds its shape and dries quickly between shifts.

Polyester mesh panel sewn into a chef coat side seam
  • Cuffs and sleeves

Turn-back cuffs are interfaced and stitched down, so they stay folded after laundering. 3/4 sleeves end clear of pans and the range.

  • Coloured coats in bleach

Black, grey and brand-colour coats get the same hypochlorite test as the name thread, run on the fabric at lab-dip stage. You see the result before you approve the colour.

  • You receive

    • Pull test record for the sample and each bulk lot
    • Shrinkage result for your fabric
    • Bleach-fastness result for coloured coats

10Making and checking

Six Steps From Cut Panel to Named Coat, Checked at Every Step

Inline QC at 3 points, after cutting, after embroidery and during assembly, against the sample the QC manager set as the reference.

  1. Cutting

    01

Fronts, facings, sleeves, collars and mesh cut from CAD marker files kept for re-orders.

  2. Embroider the cut panels

    02

Logo, name and title on the single-layer front; flags or initials on the collar piece; first piece checked.

  3. Assembly

    03

Facing, mesh panels, collar, sleeves and cuffs sewn on.

  4. Closures

    04

Knot buttons lock-stitched and loops bartacked, or snaps set; studs bagged per coat.

  5. Tests

    05

Closure pull test on every lot; industrial wash test on pre-production pieces.

  6. Name check and packing

    06

Each coat matched to the signed proof and staff list, then packed by kitchen or by person.

What line QC checks on chef coats

  • The first piece off every embroidery machine
  • Embroidery on cut fronts: backing in place, lock stitches holding, no puckering
  • Button spacing on both rows, per size
  • Knot stitching and loop bartacks; snap setting
  • Mesh panel seams finished, none open
  • Cuff turn-back and collar stand

A name that differs from the signed proof is a defect and is remade before packing (staff-list workflow as on work shirts).

13Program model

Hotel Group, Europe and Middle East: 18 Hotels, About 900 Kitchen Staff

18hotels and about 900 kitchen staff run their chef coats from one approved coat per role and one logo set-up.

Run your kitchens from one logo set-up
  • What they wear

White double-breasted coats for the brigades and black executive coats for head chefs and sous chefs. The group’s logo sits on the chest, with each chef’s name and title below it.

  • How it runs

Every hotel sends its staff list in the same format, and re-orders go out every 4 months from the same set-up record, font and thread colours. Executive-coat fabric is read against the retained lab dip before cutting.

  • How it arrives

Packed by hotel and by kitchen, with one labelled pack per chef, so each executive chef hands out coats the day the carton arrives. New hotels join on the same spec.
